European settlers first saw the lakes in 1805 in search of the upper reaches of the Mississippi, and here we are, dining in the heart of Nisswa town at Brainerd Lakes.
After the owners of Blarney's Pub & Grill in Minneapolis moved north of the woods, they reopened in the early 1990s. After some changes of ownership the Kellys are now under the care of their son and their daughter-in-law Chris and Amanda Kell as well as their two sons.
For soup and pizza, there is home-baked bread and the salads contain a variety of vegetables such as spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, carrots, celery and tomatoes. To round off your meal, you can order brisket and beans for lunch or dinner, as in the past. They also offer stuffed jalapenos with your favourite spices and sauces, smoked, grated or drizzled.
From 11am to 8pm, Poncho and Lefty's offer free chips and salsa for every order, so come in and do something good. Next time you fancy an oven - baked pizza worthy of a little drooling, go for pizza if you have room for a generous portion. Cover yourself in chocolate, caramel and strawberries, and you've just gone from one of the best pizza places in Minnesota to another.
If you like the golf course scene and see Brainerd Lakes playing golf, Maddens Classic, Craguns and Legacy have some pretty restaurants for daylight dining. There is also the sporty Grizzlys Grill, which has fire-grilling facilities, and there are dozens of bars for eating. A little further north we find some of the restaurants listed here as well as a few golf courses in the area. If you are travelling with one of these vehicles that bring many of us together, drive to the parking lot.
If you haven't lost all your energy yet, check out the dinner specials, which focus on steak, chicken and prawns. If you're looking for a quick lunch or dinner with a good view of Brainerd Lakes, Northwind Grille is the best place to eat in Bringerd. They offer a well-equipped bar with beer, wine and wine glasses, as well as a wide selection of starters and snacks. The menu includes Dinner Pasta and More, from fried and breaded cod to country steak, popcorn prawns and a wide selection of pasta.
Bar Harbor has almost no canals, but it's worth noting that on Washington Street in downtown Brainerd, there's a barbed wire fence around the corner from the restaurant, with good views of the lake.
This institution on the banks of Gull Lake in the Narrows houses one of Minnesota's most popular craft beer and wine bars. Here you will find some versatile specimens of the best Brainerd products and there is an award-winning log cabin with a beautiful view of the lake.
The selection is varied and you can choose a nice wine to accompany your meal of choice, so look at the labels to see if you've had it before. The choice ranged from sandwiches to burgers, but the peccatarians love rainbow sabres and roasted walnuts, and the fried ice cream is a large portion that they can share with three or four people for dinner.
If you're looking for a little taste south of the border, this is one of the best places to eat in Brainerd. The hot dogs and hot rolls were top of the list on the lunch menu.
The new Getaway Summer Bistro and Gull is run by Prairie Bay veterans Shane Rhuby and Derek Hyatt. Just down the road is Lost Lake, a new restaurant with a much-vaunted reputation that is a foodie favorite and has established itself as one of Brainerd's most popular restaurants in recent years.
Founded in 2013, Sprout serves local restaurants with food from more than 70 local producers and coordinates school programs with six school districts in central Minnesota. Choose Health is funded by Hunger - Free Minnesota and managed by R5DC as program administrator. Choose Health is designed and implemented in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Health and the Brainerd Department of Health.
Participants receive nutritional education and prescriptions from the University of Minnesota Extension, with ongoing support from Todd County Public Health and gogo to post-health care. Starters range from fried calamari risotto to chicken and pork chops, chicken wings and a "Canadian favorite" that uses fresh, local produce from local farms and a variety of local ingredients.
