Brainerd Minnesota Weather

Severe storms that brought multiple tornado warnings to the west, center and north of Minnesota on Wednesday night killed one person and injured at least two others. A hot and humid day gave way to powerful storms that developed late Wednesday afternoon, shaking the state with lightning damage and downed trees.

The National Weather Service (NWS) reported at least three damaged farmhouses, with spotters reporting a tornado crossing I-94 at 5: 30 p.m., while an NWS meteorologist reported that "at least one farmhouse was burned down," according to a news release. An additional warning was issued as the storms moved east after a trained spotter reported a possible tornado near the intersection of Interstate 94 and Interstate 35 in the town of St. Croix County about 7: 30 p.m., the station Nws reported. A weather warning was also issued for an area stretching from Morris in the west - from central Minnesota to northeast of Brainerd and International Falls.

Sheriff's officials in Crow Wing County said the storms began moving into the Brainerd Lakes region, with primary damage in the area near the intersection of I-94 and Interstate 35 at Around 6: 30 p.m., videos posted to the NWS Duluth office via Twitter showed damage to a farmhouse near Interstate 94 and Highway 35 in St. Croix County and a fire at a house on the south side of the freeway.

Sandstrom said the Brainerd Lakes region is experiencing storms that are part of a slow, moving low pressure system that is making its way through the region. One difference in weather conditions, Danielson said, is that the wind direction is from north to northeast, and snow generally blows in a different direction.

Gusty winds are blowing in western Minnesota, with gusts of 30 to 40 mph expected in many places, the National Weather Service said. In the southwestern corner of the state, gusts could reach 50 km / h, with gusts of up to 60 km / h in some areas.

Even in the Twin Cities gusts of up to 60 km / h are expected, in other areas with gusty winds up to 70 km / h.

By 9 a.m., most of the storm's rainfall was rain, which turned to snow in the south, but some light spots with freezing rain were also visible, including the Twin Cities. The storm would settle and, as it moved over Minnesota, most of the precipitation would turn into snow, though some rain could still mix in occasionally during the day. As with many storms on Thursday, the light to moderate snow would be a mix of snow and rain, with Duluth seeing a height of about 22 inches. He said most northeastern parts of Minnesota would get a fairly high snowfall limit, while some of Minnesota would see a low of 10 inches to 15 inches, or even as little as 4 inches in some areas.

The Coteau Prairies are heating up the city, much like Chinook winds are warming places in the Rockies. As the warmer weather gets, the strength of storm systems begins to decline, resulting in fewer severe storms than in the southern part of the state. Minnesota is more likely to be hit by early spring, which will instead bring only rain and possibly snow.
